Zhanna KADYROVA

Born in 1981, in Brovary, Ukraine
Lives and works in Kyiv, Ukraine
A leader of the new generation of Ukrainian artists and winner of prestigious awards such as the Kazimir Malevich Artist Award and the Sergey Kuryokhin Modern Art Award, Zhanna Kadyrova has participated in the 55th, 56th and 58th Venice Biennials.
Zhanna Kadyrova’s practice has since its inception encompassed disciplines as diverse as sculpture, photography, video and performance. Often diverting the aesthetic canons of the socialist ideal still present in the heritage of contemporary Ukraine, the artist explores the plastic and symbolic values of common and humble materials, particularly those associated with the construction industry (cement, plaster, tiles, etc.). The use she makes of them refers both to the construction of images, ideas or even ideologies, but also to their possible deconstruction.
