The sphere of the living and the transformations of matter due to the passage of time are at the heart of Lionel Sabatté’s work. Using painting, drawing, sculpture and installation, Lionel Sabatté develops a poetic, sensitive and disturbing work that participates in a global reflection on the impermanence of things and beings.
For several years now, the artist has been collecting materials that bear the trace of a past experience: dust, ash, metal, coal, dead skin, tree stumps, etc. These elements are combined in an unexpected way, giving form to works of great delicacy. In his artistic universe reigns a “disturbing strangeness”, in which creatures from the abyssal depths rub shoulders with small oxidized island birds, bears, wolves, unicorns…
