JR

Born in 1983, in Paris, France
Lives and works between Paris, France and New York, United States
Using the technique of photographic collage, JR exhibits his spectacular works in streets, communities and public spaces around the world, attracting the attention of those who do not normally visit museums.
A committed artist, JR creates “infiltrating art”: when collaging his blown-up photographs, the communities involved participate in the artistic process. In 2011, he was awarded the Ted Prize, which gave him the opportunity to make a wish to change the world. He thus created Inside Out, an international participatory art project to bring communities together around a message or a cause through the display of portraits in public space. All of his work is about raising questions and opening a conversation between people.
